Dr. Melissa B. Anglo is a practicing optometrist for 54 years with specialty on Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation and sub-specialties on Primary Care, Pediatric and Geriatric Optometry, Cornea and Contact Lens Specialty, Ocular Nutrition and Optical Dispensing.

She earned her Optometry education in the Philippines, place third in the Philippine Pharmacology Licensure Board Examination, Clinical Externship in Low Vision Care and a post graduate training on Adult & Pediatric Low Vision at The Lighthouse, New York, USA.

In 1990, being the first Filipino optometrist to receive a formal training in Low Vision, she devoted her time and resources on education and campaigned for public awareness of visual impairments and rehabilitation in her country. She contributed towards the preparation of the six-year national curriculum of Optometry which included the ten percentile in Low Vision. She is the Resource Person of Bacolod City Ordinance No. 08-15-759 known as “Mandatory Vision Screening For Infants and Children Ordinance”. She will continue to work on Primary Care Optometry to be an integral part of the Philippine Government Health System.

She has been a presenting author at the International Conference on Low Vision (U.S.A.), Asian Pacific Optometric Congress (Australia), World Conference on Optometric Education (USA) and International Vision Rehabilitation Symposium (Hong Kong).

Her involvement include being the president of Philippine College of Optometry, Inc. (PCO) in 1999-2004 and Optometric Association of the Philippines (OAP) in 2008-2009.

In 2016 she was awarded as Outstanding Optometrist of the Year by the Optometric Association of the Philippines.
